Caleb's Birth Story
I went to a doctors appointment on Monday morning and my
blood pressure was still high so they were planning the induction for
Friday or Saturday. they told me i should rest as much as possible but with a two year old at home who are they kidding. On Wednesday I noticed I kinda had a lot of
contractions and I was a little uncomfortable and i really wasn't feeling well but I wrote it off. I decided not to cook dinner so we went out to dinner at McDonald's and i came home and rested. At
around 7 that night I noticed I was having consistent contractions and they were coming what felt like consistently so I watched
the clock and by 9pm the contractions were 6 minutes apart but I was still
really comfortable so I went to bed. The pain of the contractions woke
me up at midnight and they were still 6 minutes apart. So we decided to go to the hospital and when they checked me i was still 50% Effaced and 2 cm dilated. they told me I could walk for two hours or so and I decided to give that a try. After an hour or
so I was exhausted and had no desire to continue walking and we headed back to labor and delivery and nothing had changed so they sent us home with instructions to see the Dr. First thing in the
morning. I tossed and turned most of the night but the pain wasn't any-worse than regular cramps and they had spread further apart and were more like 8-10 minutes apart. Anthony went to work and so did my mom so i took Madison to a friends house while i was at my Dr's appointment. I was still having decent contractions, and my blood
pressure was still high so the doc did an ultrasound and didn't like
what he saw. he left the room and came back in about 5 minutes and instructed me to go straight to the hospital but to keep as calm as possible because he didn't want my blood pressure to go up any higher. I went to the car and called Anthony and my mom and we all decided that I would go pick up Madison and then we would all meet back at my house. I beat them both back to our house and finally had to call them both and find out how much longer.. I was admitted at
11:00 and was still feeling pretty comfortable and I was starving. I unwisely decided to not eat on the way there. They got the IV hooked up and started pitocin around 12:00 or so. the contractions got stronger pretty quick but i was progressing really slowly. i asked for some pain medication around 3:00 and the stuff they gave me knocked me out. which was good because i was exhausted anyway. They broke my water around 4:00 and I don't remember this but I do remember waking up at 4:30 and no one was there and my contractions were unbearable. finally Anthony came into the room, he had decided that since i was sleeping that he would run and get some lunch and who could blame the guy, i was starving. I asked for my epidural but they said i wasn't dilated enough ( which I have decided is stupid) so I went through 2 1/2 hours of incredibly painful labor and Finally the anesthesiologist walked in! I was finally dilated to 4 cm and could have my epidural which was around 7:00pm. shortly after Dr. Lopez came in and let me know he was going home to eat dinner and would only be 10 minutes away. by 8:30pm i was fully dilated and the doctor was on his way back. I only pushed for a very short time and Caleb was born at 9:15pm. I had a little problem so they rushed him away from me. they had a lot of trouble removing the placenta from the uterine wall. Caleb was also struggling to breath a little but not like Madison. they watched him for a while and decided to just keep us in the delivery room with an oxygen monitor on him. they kept us in the delivery room with him until 1am and then they decided he was totally fine and was keeping his oxygen saturation up just fine. they gave him a bath wrapped him up and moved us up to the postpartum area. I sent Anthony home so he could get some rest. Caleb was eating, sleeping, and pooping well enough for us to go home early Saturday morning.
